How Much Does an Event Photographer Cost in Bristol?

If you’re planning a party, festival, corporate event or special celebration, one of the first questions you might have is: how much does an event photographer actually cost in Bristol?

The answer depends on the length of your event, the type of photography you need, the number of images you want and the level of editing involved.

At SD Photography, we believe professional event photography should be straightforward and accessible, which is why we’ve created simple packages based primarily around how much coverage your event needs.

How Much Does Event Photography Cost?

Professional event photography prices can vary considerably depending on the photographer and the requirements of your event.

Some photographers charge by the hour, while others offer half-day, full-day or completely bespoke packages.

At SD Photography, we’ve kept things simple with packages starting from £100 for two hours of event photography.

Our current packages include:

2-Hour Event Photography — £100

Perfect for smaller events, birthday parties, celebrations and occasions where you only need the key part of the event captured.

Our 2-hour package includes:

  • Up to 2 hours of photography
  • A minimum of 50 photographs
  • Digital delivery of your event photographs
  • 5 professionally edited highlight images

For many smaller events, two hours provides plenty of time to capture guests arriving, candid moments, group photographs and the main parts of the celebration.

4-Hour Event Photography — £200

For longer celebrations and events, four hours gives us considerably more time to document the atmosphere as the event develops.

This can be a great option for:

  • Larger birthday parties
  • Corporate events
  • Community events
  • Engagement celebrations
  • Festivals
  • Charity events

With four hours of coverage, there’s much more opportunity to capture both the important moments and the smaller candid interactions happening throughout your event.

6-Hour Event Photography — £350

For larger events or occasions where you want extensive coverage, our 6-hour package allows us to document a much greater part of the day.

This is particularly suited to festivals, large celebrations, corporate events and occasions with several different activities taking place.

Rather than only photographing the main part of the event, extended coverage allows us to capture how the event changes throughout the day or evening.

What Affects the Price of an Event Photographer?

The length of coverage is one of the biggest factors, but it’s not the only thing that can affect photography prices.

Length of the Event

Naturally, photographing an event for six hours involves considerably more work than photographing one for two.

It’s also important to remember that the photographer’s work doesn’t finish when the event does.

Afterwards, photographs need to be reviewed, organised, selected, prepared and edited before they’re delivered.

Location

Where your event is taking place can also affect the overall cost.

SD Photography is based in Bristol and covers Bristol, Bath and the surrounding South West.

For events significantly further away, additional travel costs may apply. We’ll always discuss this with you before confirming your booking so there are no unexpected charges.

Editing

Editing is another important part of professional photography.

Even relatively small adjustments to exposure, colour, contrast and composition can transform a good photograph into something much more polished.

Our photography packages include professionally edited highlight images selected from your event.

Type of Event

No two events are exactly the same.

A small birthday party has very different requirements from a large outdoor festival or corporate event.

Lighting, venue size, number of guests, activities and the moments you want captured can all affect what level of coverage is appropriate.

That’s why we’re always happy to discuss your event before you decide which package to choose.

Is Two Hours of Photography Enough?

For many events, yes.

If you’re holding a smaller birthday party or celebration and mainly want photographs of the guests, atmosphere and key moments, two hours can provide excellent coverage.

However, if your event includes several important moments spread throughout the day, we’d recommend considering four or six hours.

Think about the timeline of your event.

If guests arrive at 4pm but speeches, entertainment or other important moments aren’t happening until 7pm, a two-hour package may mean choosing which parts you want photographed.

With longer coverage, we can tell more of the complete story.

Why Hire an Event Photographer Instead of Using Phone Photos?

Modern smartphones can take fantastic photographs, and we’re certainly not going to pretend otherwise.

But having a dedicated photographer means someone is specifically looking for the moments worth capturing.

While you and your guests enjoy the event, we’re watching for reactions, conversations, laughter, details and moments that might otherwise disappear in seconds.

It also means the organiser doesn’t have to spend the event worrying about whether enough photographs are being taken.

Our style at SD Photography focuses heavily on natural event photography. We want to capture what your event actually felt like, rather than spending the entire time stopping guests and staging photographs.

Of course, we’re still happy to capture those important group shots!

What Should I Look for When Comparing Photographer Prices?

Price matters, but we’d recommend looking beyond the headline figure.

Before booking any event photographer, consider:

  • How long will they actually attend?
  • How many photographs will you receive?
  • Are edited photographs included?
  • How will your images be delivered?
  • Does their photography style suit your event?
  • Are travel costs included?
  • Is a deposit required?
  • What happens if the event is cancelled?
  • When should you expect your photographs?

A cheaper quote isn’t necessarily better value if it includes considerably less.

Likewise, you shouldn’t automatically assume that the most expensive photographer is the right photographer for your particular event.

Look at their work, understand exactly what you’re receiving and choose someone whose style and approach fit what you have planned.
